votinintheloin: Prop. F (How Would You Grade It?)

Why does Proposition F deserve a failing grade? According to Ken Garcia’s piece in The Examiner:

The reason is simple — not a single community in the state has ever produced any development requiring anything close to 50 percent affordable units — because it’s not feasible. In fact, a study published last year by the Non-Profit Housing Association of Northern California that looked at 170 communities in the state found that the average percentage of affordable housing in jurisdictions throughout California was 14 percent.

Moreover, Prop. F would set a dangerous precedent for any development agreement here since the basic outline (on the ballot as Proposition G) that would allow the Lennar Corp. to build 10,000 homes in the Hunters Point Shipyard and Candlestick Point area was approved by supervisors by a 9-2 vote a year ago. It was only recently that Daly took it upon himself to slap Prop. F on the ballot without any studies, hearings or financial analysis. — Ken Garcia, examiner.com

In my opinion, the whole affair calls attention to the idea that our local politicians should be focusing on the issues in their own districts. As another local blogger (http://chrisdalysucks.wordpress.com) puts it “Daly would do well to quit his chirping about Tiananmen Square, Red Square, wherever; and remember his lofty supervisor perch only affords him a bird’s eye view of the Union Square… so, start cleaning up San Francisco!

Thankfully, I haven’t seen a flyer in my mailbox for Proposition F. A complete waste of paper. Oh, the humani-tree!
