Tenderloin, bordered by Geary, Market and Larkin streets
Jaywalker: On May 16 at O’Farrell and Hyde streets, patrol officers responded to a call of a woman walking in and out of traffic. The officers detained the woman for her own safety. A computer check revealed that the woman had a no-bail felony warrant. — S.F. Police Blotter
A real life example of how our current criminal justice system is failing. Failing the residents of District 6, and the woman mentioned in the police report, above.
(***If successful, it is envisioned that the Community Justice Center (CJC) would serve as a model for other districts as well — the entire city. That means less crime, and more help for undeserved folks in your hood too.)
The proposed CJC is a collaborative court for situations just like this — an individual that is slipping through the cracks, has a felony warrant, and may be in need of social services.
As you may know, Chris Daly is NOT supporting the CJC. At the Board of Supervisors, Budget and Finance Committee meeting, 5/14/08, Chris Daly, Jake McGoldrick and Ross Mirkarimi opposed initial funding for the CJC. Supervisors Sean Eldsbern and Carmen Chu supported the release of funds.
Supervisor Beavn Dufty has successfully brought the issue before the entire Board of Supervisors. That meeting will occur on June 10, and is open to the public. Legislative Chamber, Room 250 at 2 p.m.
Please contact the Board of Supervisors, and support the Community Justice Center. It’s easy, just “click” there faces.
