There will be a Tree Planting day in The Tenderloin on Saturday-August 9, 2008. Please mark your calendars, and volunteer, if you can!
Efforts will be focusing mostly on replacing trees that have been damaged, are missing, or dying — but we will also planting new trees. We (North of Market – Tenderloin Community Benefit Corporation) are doing this planting, again, with the Friends of the Urban Forest, and The Tenderloin Tree Campaign, and with new tree friends, the 83 McAllister (The Book Concern Building) Condo owners. We hope to have TNT-The New Tenderloin join in this effort, as well.
There will be a community preparation meeting with the Friends of the Urban Forest on July 1st at 7:00 p.m. at 83 McAllister to discuss preparations for the tree planting.

Sounds like a great plan. They tried to do the same thing on 6th Street not too long ago. But somehow the trees have disappeared. Either they were stolen or cut down by the homeless.
I’m going to go to this; there’s a spot in front of my house on O’Farrell that has an open tree pit that’s in need of some TLC.
Thanks for posting to this, I had forgotten about it.
