I was recently involved in a planning meeting to replace and plant new trees in The Tenderloin. The planting is going to happen August 9th. One of the women involved, sent me an email saying that she had received a call from someone saying they “found” her wallet. As it turns out, it wasn’t her wallet — the person calling had purchased the wallet, and credit cards on the street for $5, in an attempt to find the owner (think credit card and identify theft). The only phone number in the wallet was a business card, hence the call to my friend.
My friend asked the caller if there was any ID in the wallet — there was, and she recognized the name as one of the tree planting volunteers! The wallet is now back in the hands of the owner.
