Nature Calls inthetenderloin (Again!)

Keep your business indoors: On July 21, officers saw a man urinating in public at Hyde Street and Golden Gate Avenue. They detained the man. He had a parole warrant. [SF Examiner, 8/7/08]

Added bonus: On July 22, officers saw a man drinking a beer on the sidewalk on McAllister Street. They detained the man, and a computer check revealed he had a no-bail warrant out of San Francisco. [SF Examiner, 8/8/08]

Parking-lot lurker: On July 28 at Hyde and Eddy streets, foot-beat officers observed a male loitering in a gated parking lot. The officers asked the man if he rented one of the spaces and he said, “no.” The officers conducted a computer check and the man was a wanted parolee with a no-bail parole warrant. He was booked. Nature Calls, police response: On July 18 at Eddy and Cyril Magnin streets, foot-beat officers saw a man urinating on the sidewalk. They detained the man and a warrant check revealed that he had a no-bail warrant out of Alameda County. [SF Examiner, 8/15/08]

It’s clear that the current criminal justice system in The City is not working. Interesting to note that opponents of the proposed Community Justice Center (Chris Daly) expressed concern that “quality of life crimes” would somehow get into the mix. It looks like *enforcing the law* paid off in all of the instances above.

***And don’t forget: Supervisor Daly made a motion to add language to the Community Justice Center proposal – that car camping, obstructing doorways [loitering], panhandling, camping in parks would NOT be brought before the Community Justice Center. The motion failed. — livinintheloin
