If you haven’t had the chance, check out Mona Caron‘s mural on the corner of Jones and Golden Gate. In preparation for the mural, the building was re-surfaced, painted, and a billboard was removed. The refurbishing scaffolding has been removed, and work on the mural has begun. You can see Mona and LisaRuth working in the picture to the right.
As part of the initial process, Mona met with folks in the area to get a better feel for the neighborhood. Over the course of several months, she was able to create a design that reflects both the architecture and the rich diversity of the residents of The Uptown Tenderloin Historic District.
The mural incorporates architecture from the past, urban street scenes, windows into the solitary dwellings, stories of immigration, and will include participation from the children in the neighborhood — they will be doing some of the painting.
You really should take the opportunity to check out the work as it progresses.
