Grab the pooch and get out! Shortly after 11:00, fire crews respond to smoke and fire at 10 UN Plaza. Residents of the
building next door, 83 McAllister, are evacuated during Tuesday’s late-in-the-evening fire.
No, that isn’t the coffee maker — it’s a high decibel fire alarm. An interesting experience to wake up to. Strobes flashing, emergency lights on, fire doors released in front of the elevators and in divided common areas (magnetically controlled). Who knew? This is the first time I’ve seen our “smart building” in action.
Basically, a good urban experience. Neighbors knocked on doors to make sure everyone was awake and out of the building, fire and rescue teams came fast — they were in the building by the time folks grabbed pets, laptops and passports.
Living in San Francisco, expensive…good neighbors, priceless.
All ended well. The fire was put out, and it only took another hour to turn off the building. Flash mob pajama party. Woot!
