The Arts Commission announced certain details late Tuesday regarding the pilot program Art in Storefronts and the colorful launch planned, which will include live music and speeches by city officials.

The program, announced by Mayor Gavin Newsom to help offset the adverse impacts of empty storefronts on commercial corridors, officially launches Oct. 1 with a ceremony from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The launch will include the unveiling of the first 10 storefront windows designed by artists for locations along Market Street between Fifth and Eighth Streets. The ceremony is at 989 Market St.  [sfexaminer.com]

Art in Storefronts temporarily places original art installations by San Francisco-based artists vacant storefront windows — a total of 20 windows located in Central Market, Tenderloin, Bayview, and lower 24th Street in the Mission will display artwork.
