I have been living in the Tenderloin (or as my real estate agent put it, 'Civic Center') for about 2 years. I can relate to all the sentiments expressed on this blog. I too was able to buy at Symphony Towers and was initially thrilled to be living here. However, being a single woman in particular, I sometimes feel threatened by some of the aggressive street people and violence I witness in this area. That doesn't mean I don't appreciate my community: I love the Polk street vibe, the food, coffee shops, schools, central location and urban influence.
I am open to suggestions on how to improve my community.

We met this morning over your tree planting - I'd like to help hassle the CBD to water the trees that were planted last weekend; get in touch if you like and I'll try to help.

Your ideas about the tenderloin are an inspiration. I have been living in the 'loin since July and have come to love the area. We all know it can be a bit sketchy sometimes, but I love the central location, the fusion of different kinds of people (out of towners, homeless, artist, people working downtown, etc.) in the area. I also like the extremes in the area (a quick walk up snob hill is a big transition from the TL). Either way, TL, you are my home.
