Trouble is that most of the time they're out, it's not for a fire. I just suspected the worst in your intentions since that's usually what I've come to realize in SF. Every time I hear or read about someone preaching about "Saving" something in SF, it's a very thinly veiled cover up for their own self interests. That said, we still have way too many fire stations and firefighters in SF. The fear of SF burning to the ground again due to fire is blown way out of proportion. Those fears are why we have too many firefighters. Cut the budget and leave it up to them as to whether they cut heads or salaries. I bet you dollars to cents that they cut heads instead. We could trim back and still provide a really good response time. Just because you had a first hand experience with the SFPD doesn't mean they should enjoy our unquestioning loyalty.
