Parking Lot Attendants at Asian Art Museum

The scene in the parking lot between the Main Library, and the Asian Art Museum. Walking the pooch last night after work, I noticed cars circling the parking lot. Odd, plenty of parking spaces. Hmmm? Oooh…the “parking attendants” were out in full force — the ones that point out a space, and then want a dollar for the service.

It gets better. Folks were not willing to park — what happens when you don’t pay the attendant? Instead, they got out of their cars, and took pictures. This will look great in my photo album (memories of my trip to San Francisco)!

MING Bling

“MING” opens at the Asian Museum of Art this Friday. Many of the pieces in the exhibit (240 pieces — porcelain, paintings, textiles, lacquer, jade, jewelry) — have never been seen outside of China (and, in some cases, not even there). According the the museum’s new director, Jay Xu, the word ‘Ming’ means ‘bright’ in Chinese. Bling?

The exhibit will be at the Asian through September 21.

cheapthrills: $5 Thursdays after 5 p.m.; free first Sunday of the month — July 6th.

Sunday hours: 10:00am. -5:00 pm.

Officials at the Asian Art Museum announce new “Target First Free Sundays program”. Previously, the first Tuesday of the month was the free admission day (while folks were are work). The new Sunday program will make the museum’s collection accessible to a much wider range of individuals. First Sunday of the month, 10 a.m. – 4:30 pm.

This Sunday, 5/4/08, is the kickoff featuring the Touch of Polynesian Dance Group (12:30 p.m.), author Wendy Tokuda (10:15 a.m.), painting and embroidery demonstrations will also take place this Sunday.
